Courtney Smith of Gorham awarded Saint Michael's College summer research grant

Courtney Smith, daughter of Jonathan and Cynthia Smith of Gorham, was informed this week that she will receive a Vice President for Academic Affairs Research Fellowship summer research grant from Saint Michael's College. Smith will be engaged in carrying out the proposal, "Creating interpretive signage to educate visitors to the Teaching Gardens", under the direction of Saint Michael's Professor, Dr. Valerie Bang-Jensen, education department,.

Smith, a junior education and religious studies double major, graduated from Gorham High School before coming to Saint Michael's, a liberal arts residential Catholic college located three minutes from Burlington, Vermont, one of America's top 10 college towns.

Dr. Karen Talentino, Saint Michael's vice president for academic affairs, said on announcing the grant, "I enthusiastically agree with the committee in its judgment of the quality of your proposal." Funds are additionally being awarded to the student to cover research materials and for travel to present the results at an academic conference.
