Saint Michael's Student, Robert Hammond of Enfield, Presents Research at Mathematics Conference

Robert Hammond, son of Robert Hammond of Enfield, was one of five Saint Michael's College students and four SMC faculty members to attend the 19th annual Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (HRUMC) held this year on April 21 at Western New England University in Springfield, MA.

Hammond, a junior mathematics major, who graduated from Enrico Fermi High School before coming to Saint Michael's, presented on "Graph Theory and Water Habitat Conservation".

The conference celebrates undergraduate mathematics research with students and faculty from across the Northeast. There were about 135 presentations in mathematics, computer science and statistics in the day-long conference.

Saint Michael's Faculty members Joanna Ellis-Monaghan (Mathematics) and Phil Yates (Mathematics) and student Mary Spuches chaired sessions at the conference. Also attending (and providing logistic support) were faculty members Greta Pangborn (Computer Science) and Lloyd Simons (Mathematics).
